He came to Milwaukee, with his parent, at twelve years of age, and went into Rice & Freedman's store. In 1852, he enlisted in the 28th Wisconsin VI, County B; served two years and seven months, and was then mustered out. He came to Madison, WI, and thence to Milwaukee, to his old situation. In 1876, he came to his present location, and commenced business. He was appointed Postmaster, 03/01/1881. In 1868, he married Miss Klemp. They have six children. He belongs to the IOOF.
