Born in Maine 1822. Elected sheriff on Republican ticket 1860. Resigned to become 1st Lieutenant 21st Wisconsin 1862. Bought the Champlin Mill when H H Champlin disappeared 1854. Murphy Mill. Sold his farm and moved to Manitowoc in 1869. Brother-in-law of J H Champlin. Moved to California and died there about 1900. Married Mary Champlin and when she died 05/10/1852 married Ellen her sister. One of his sons was governor of California.
